Success of Gastric Bypass Surgery

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, nearly two-thirds of all American adults are either overweight or obese. With the increasing number of obesity, cases come added attention to weight loss surgery options. One of the most popular, Gastric Bypass surgery, reduces the size of the stomach and thus reduces the amount of food that a patient can consume. This results in weight loss. Experts have proven that gastric bypass surgery, as well as other bariatric surgeries, has reduced diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol symptoms in those who had it.

In today’s age, most people know at least one person who has had gastric bypass surgery. As someone interested in weight loss surgery, you will most likely be interested in their success stories.

Caleb was born with muscular dystrophy, a disease that weakens the body’s musculoskeletal system and oftentimes leaves people immobile. Because of his inability to be as active as other children, he began gaining weight. As he became a teenager, Caleb was well over 300 pounds and nearly 400. In order to have a chance at walking again or living a prosperous life, his doctor suggested Gastric Bypass. After surgery, Caleb has lost nearly 70 pounds and his blood pressure and cholesterol have both dropped. He continues to work toward weight loss and has begun short walks with a walker a few times a week.

Monica had three children before the age of 25. She realized after each pregnancy that it was harder and harder to lose weight. Three years later, she was 250 pounds on a 4’ 11” frame. At a BMI of 51, her doctor suggested gastric bypass surgery in order to help her lose weight and live a long life with her children. Also, her husband and her had been trying for a fourth child and had been having infertility issues. Her doctor believed that after weight loss she would get pregnant again. She lost 65 pounds and 7 months after surgery just found out she’s expecting again.
